Texas Forest Service link is also on my front blog page.
The above link describes the current — Sunday, April 17, 2011 — fires in Palo Pinto, Stephens Counties of Texas.
I can see the large clouds of smoke from the Caddo, Strawn fires from our ranch house, north Erath County, CR 114 and SH 108.
I have friends south of Cisco.

Looks like you’ll have to stay on high alert for a while. We should all hope for RAIN mid/west Texas. That is the only solution. Good luck.
Don’t let yourself get hemmed in. If its close abandon ship. Fire moves faster than you can imagine. I assume you have the horse trailer and whatever else you need ready to go. Good luck!
Yes, I’ve got the trailers hitched and Star corralled. If it breaks loose, we load up everybody and head away from the danger. They are just having a terrible time north of here about fifteen miles or so.
If you’ve not made use of the Weather Underground interactive map, you might want to give it a look. When you go to the site, the map controls are easy to understand. I’ve been checking the satellite/fire options.
One nice touch is that you can see fire perimeters at a glance, and distinguish satellite-detected fires. The Forest Service map might provide the same information, but I didn’t see it in my quick glance.
No, I’ve not made use of the W. Underground map. I am going to it. I didn’t see anything on the Forest Service map either. I’ll see what I can see with the Underground map. Thanks.
That’s a fine map!
